IChTo-2022 Registration is open!

It is our great honour to introduce IChTo-2022. This chemistry competition is for high-school students around the world since 2017.

The competition follows a unique model as students need to answer challenging open-ended questions, which may or may not have a solution at all, in face of their peers and the jury. This is a stark difference from the famous International Chemistry Olympiad. Each team is composed of 4-6 schoolchildren representing one country, who work in close cooperation throughout IChTo.

A typical round in the tournament sees one team acting as a reporter, another acting as an opponent and a third acting as a reviewer. Under special circumstances a fourth team may also be present, which acts purely as an observer. After each round, the teams change roles and repeat until each team played each role. Although it is primarily a team competition by its nature, personal prizes are also awarded based on the individuals’ accumulated performance through the stages.

The 1st, 2nd and 3rd IChTo competitions were organised in Lomonosov Moscow State University. IChTo 2021 was organised online. Teams from 14 countries entered the competition so far. This year International Chemistry Tournament will take place at Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) in Budapest, Hungary, 16-21 August 2022.

Upon registration, you agree to participate in the event (cancellable anytime). The registration fee covers airport transfer, commute during the competition, catering during lunch & coffee breaks, as well as participation in every cultural programme. The registration fee is €280. (Payable to the Hungarian Chemical Society for each team member and team leader). Please keep in mind that accommodation, visa and traveling to Budapest are not included, although we are eager to help with organising any of these.

Early bird registration closes on 1st of June. If you register early bird, you also get the chance to select one of the exercises to be featured on IChTo 2022.

Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Founders (info@ichto.org) or the Local Organising Committee (ichto.hu@gmail.com). Looking forward to seeing you in person!
